NMEA databus converter use case

NMEA→ ARINC‑429 on ship

  • Case background During a naval platform overhaul, shipboard outputs in NMEA‑0183 had to feed equipment expecting ARINC‑429 labels. This type of bridging was accomplished with a COTS converter and custom-made NMEA→ARINC firmware. Due to intended use in harsh maritime environments, reliability was paramount (MTBF using MIL‑HDBK‑217F).
  • Case objective Deliver deterministic, low‑latency mapping from NMEA to ARINC‑429, with correct handling and label selection.
